reading the paper

now, more and more, when i read the paper i find myself marveling, "damn! those are some good quotes. i wonder how she was able to get those."

case in point: nicholas confessore's story on gov. david paterson this morning in the times, excerpt below.

“This is a devastating blow to a campaign that had problems to begin with,” said State Senator Eric T. Schneiderman, a Manhattan Democrat who is one of Mr. Paterson’s closest friends in Albany. “I don’t think there’s any way around that, and I think he knows that. I think everyone knows that.”

i mean, damn! how do people get such awesomeness.

i'll never know, from washington anyway since i'm not a reporting person, just striving to be an interactive nerd. but still, i find it admirable.

yes, i'm geeking out.

Interviewing people is harder than it seems, but unfortunately, how your piece ultimately turns out also has a lot to do with whether the interviewee happens to be a dipshit or not.

With my luck, it would have gone something like this:

Asked whether this was a devastating blow to the campaign, State Senator Eric T. Schneiderman said, "Yes."
